Our Seasoning Process

Harvest

We use ethically sourced wood from our friends at Abbott Tree Care.

Cut and Split

Split logs have more surface area, helping the wood dry more evenly.

Stack

Proper firewood stacking allows air to circulate around the wood.

Dry

Our wood is left to dry naturally in the open air for months on end.

Store and Burn

Once the wood is dried, it’s ready to be stored or used for burning.

Cooking with
Seasoned Wood

Experience the difference with Deeke’s Elgin seasoned wood, your secret ingredient for adding an irresistible smoky flavor to your favorite dishes. Our commitment to quality ensures that our firewood can undergo a thorough drying process for over six months, resulting in significantly lower moisture for a better burn.

With lower moisture content, our wood ignites easily and burns hotter, resulting in a cleaner fire and more consistent cooking temperatures. Forget about that burnt undertone or bland meals on the grill and say hello to a world of savory possibilities with Deeke’s Elgin seasoned wood.

Our Seasoned Firewood

OAK

  • Produces superior heat with little smoke
  • Throws very few sparks and ideal for fireplaces

CHERRY

  • Produces rich and fruity fragrance when burned

  • A favorite for campfires, barbeques, and meat smokers

MIXED HARDWOOD

  • An assortment of hardwoods native to Illinois
  • Our most economical firewood option

Our Mixed Hardwood can include Cherry, Oak, Hard Maple, Locust, and Ash

Freshly cut or fallen wood, often called green wood, typically contains around 50 percent moisture content. Burning this wood is far from ideal for several reasons. The high moisture content makes it challenging to ignite and maintain a fire. Burning green wood doesn’t produce the flavorful smoke that seasoned wood does, and it can significantly reduce the fire’s temperature.

Seasoned Firewood Stacking

Properly stacked firewood cures faster, stays drier, and lasts longer than piled firewood. Upon delivery, our crew can stack the wood in any location you’d like, indoors or outdoors. Schedule your Elgin firewood delivery and stacking now.
